Archery Achievement Awards: Setting personal goals

archery merit program wsc clipboard.JPG

It is fun to fling arrows. Some archers, however, want to set goals to improve their archery skills and have a way to track their progress. To meet this need, the Wintergreen Sporting Club archery award program has been started to provide a framework to help members improve by setting personal archery goals.

This is strictly voluntary; it’s not expected that every WSC archer will be interested. It is not designed to have archers compete against each other. Instead, it will simply document the improvements in the skill of those participating and provide personal goals.

At the club’s regular archery sessions those in the program will shoot at least 3 “ends” of 6 arrows for a total of 18 arrows. An “end” is archery talk for shooting a set number of arrows (usually 3 or 6) and then scoring those arrows. An achievement award is earned when shooting at least 3 ends during an archery session that can be scored.

Mike Y Barebow 63 3 Stars 8/10/2021
WSC Archery Instructor: John Morgan (Scores as of Aug 13, 2021)

For the first achievement level, the “ends” do not have to be consecutive (i.e, if you shoot two good ends, but your third end is bad, you can elect not to score this “end” and continue to shoot one more end for a total of 3). However, you can only skip one end. After the initial achievement level, to earn an award you cannot skip an end; you will need to score 3 consecutive ends.

All of the ends have to be completed during an archery session, but there is no time limit on our archery session.

Our targets are 80 cm face. We will shoot at a distance of 20 yards. The achievement matrix points are dividend base upon equipment type (Compound, Olympic, or Barebow; see below).

At the end of each “end”, you score and record your arrows on a provided score sheet. If you shoot more than 6 arrows, the lowest score for the 6 arrows will be recorded. After you complete 3 ends, you total your total score and complete and sign your score sheet.

If you qualify for an achievement award, it will be award to you at the next archery session. You will have the option of having your name and achievement award/score posted on the archery website.
